Accompaniment
We believe a society’s response to crime or other kinds of harm should accomplish three important things: one is to support those harmed, holding them safe from further harm and looking after the needs created by the harm. Another is to create a pathway for meaningful accountability and amends. Equally important is to remove or transform the conditions that made the harm possible or likely.
We are preparing to offer victim/survivor centered support for people directly and indirectly impacted by criminalized harm—whether or not it has been reported to the police—and who need something from justice that legal school policies or the courts cannot provide. Our approach is to assist people as they discern what they need and work with them in designing processes to meet those needs, offering guidance and facilitation as needed.
The Hub is also launching a 4-part series for people working in the victim/survivor service field—people working directly with victims/survivors, people who shape and/or fund victim services (e.g., victim advocates, mental health professionals, policy makers, etc.)—and for people or organizations wanting to provide better support to victims and survivors.
